The Lap Band procedure is minimally invasive surgical procedure that involves the placement of a band around the top portion of the stomach to reduce appetite. The procedure is done laparscopically, using several tiny incisions.
Prescription Medications
According to University of California Medical Center, prescription-strength liquid Tylenol is used to control pain after the Lap Band surgery. Severe pain may be controlled with liquid narcotics such as Lortabs.
Over-the-Counter Medications
Anti-inflammatory medications such ibuprofen may also control Lap Band pain. These medications may be used in place of prescription medications or after prescriptions have run out.
Time Frame
Pain medication is usually only needed for a few days or a week at most following the Lap Band procedure.
Other Pain
Sometimes the shoulder may ache after surgeries such as the Lap Band procedure. Anti-inflammatory medications and the use of heating pad may help alleviate this pain.
Warning
If pain persists for more than a week, consult your physician. Prolonged pain may indicate some type of surgical complication.
