My Quickcam Microphone Won'T Work

Logitech is a well-known name in computer webcams. Of the many webcam choices, the QuickCam series of cameras is especially popular for its low-cost, auto-focus and high sound quality. For the average user who just wants to video chat and make online videos, this is a popular camera choice. The QuickCam isn't without its problems, though. You might have issues, especially when it comes with the QuickCam's microphone. These problems usually have to do with the webcam settings and not a technical issue with the webcam.

Instructions

1. Turn your sound up. Click the button that looks like a speaker on the taskbar and make sure the volume's turned up. If you have external speakers, make sure they're on.

2. Click "Start," then choose "All Programs," "Accessories" and open "Sound Recorder." Click "Edit" and choose "Audio Properties." Under "Sound Recording" select "Logitech Mic." Press "Apply." Hit the "Record" button and say something into the microphone. Press "Stop" and then "Play." If the sound works, check the sound settings in the program you are using with your webcam.

3. Press "Start," choose "Programs" and under "Logitech," choose "Logitech QuickCam." Click "Change settings" in the menu. This button looks like two gears. Under "Audio Settings," select the Logitech camera. Press "OK."

4. Make sure the Logitech volume button isn't muted. Find this button at the bottom of the Logitech menu. It looks like a microphone. If the background is light blue, that means it's set to mute.

5. Check the drivers. Press "Start" and choose "Control Panel." Click "System" and choose "Device Manage." Open the "Sound, video and game controllers" menu find "Logitech microphone." If "Logitech microphone" has a red X or yellow exclamation point next to it, reinstall the drivers by placing the visiting the Logitech website and going to the "Downloads" section (see Resources).
