Paint Types For Hardy Board Siding

Find hardy board siding in a wood texture.

Made from cement fibers, hardy board siding withstands extreme climates without any kind of damage. Purchase hardy board in either a raw or primed board. Also find hardy board pre-painted in a selection of colors. When painting, treat hardy board as you would regular siding. Use a primer base to ensure the paint adheres and the paint color is consistent. Does this Spark an idea?

Primer

Hardy board requires a primer before you apply the paint. Use either an oil-based or latex-based primer, based on the type of paint you purchased.

Oil-Based Paint

Paint hardy board with exterior oil-based house paint. Cleanup for an oil-based paint requires the use of mineral spirits, paint thinner or turpentine. When using oil-based paint, check the weather forecast to make sure there is no rain in the forecast for several days. An oil-based paint takes anywhere from 48 to 72 hours to dry.

Latex

A latex-based house paint provides excellent coverage for hardy board. Use water for clean-up. Make sure there is no rain in the forecast for at least 24 hours since normal drying time for a latex-based paint is 24 hours. High humidity can cause the paint to take longer to dry.
