A private trade school, the Medical Transcription Education Center is 12 miles from Medina (approximately 22 minutes by automobile) in the town of Fairlawn. The school opened in 1996 and carries the accreditation of the Approval Committee for Certificate Programs, a joint task force of the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity and American Health Information Management Association. The only program offered is a 1-year certificate in medical transcription, which is available both in a classroom-based format and as distance education.
