Things To Do In Portland Oregon On Christmas Day

After opening the presents, head out on the town in Portland.

After opening all the presents and spending Christmas Day with the family, people might get a bit stir-crazy and feel like going out. Portland, Oregon, is home to several restaurants that are open on Christmas if you're looking for an alternative to cooking a big meal. There are stores that are open as well. If you're looking for a Christmas-themed activity, take the family to view one of the impressive light shows.

Jubitz Winder Wonderland

Jubitz Winter Wonderland is billed as the "largest holiday light show west of the Mississippi." The event is held at the Portland International Raceway. After paying the car's admission cost, drive along the race track and view more than 250 light pieces, many of which are animated. Scenes such as the 12 days of Christmas, a skiing Santa Claus, and reindeer that fly over your car are displayed. Music plays throughout the show, which is open every day from Thanksgiving to the end of December, including Christmas Day.

Lights on Peacock Lane

For a Portland tradition that has been taking place each Christmas season since 1920, visit the homes of Peacock Lane. The neighborhood contains many old Tudor homes, and each one is decorated with lights, life-sized replicas of seasonal figures, nativity scenes and Christmas trees. Plan to park several blocks away because of heavy crowds. You and your family can walk down the street to see the lights close up or take a horse-drawn carriage ride.
