Sound Effects for Virtual DJ
Virtual DJ is a comprehensive software platform for the modern DJ, employing various plug-ins to emulate conventional sound effects.
Vinyl Effects
Virtual DJ duplicates a number of effects native to vinyl. Two of the most common are the brake, which slows playback to a crawl, and the backspin, which generates a "fast rewind" sound.
Flanger
The 1970s introduced the flange, a pulsating tone that overlapped the music. Virtual DJ replicates the effect faithfully, allowing the user to adjust parameters on the fly.
Loop Effects
Virtual DJ also features "overloop," an effect that creates a hesitation within the track, causing it to "stutter" in the background. Likewise, it can create a duplicate of the track one segment ahead, referred to as "doubling."
Key Adjust
While pitch bending is an effect as old as DJing itself, Virtual DJ permits the user to adjust the key of vocals separately, preventing the "chipmunk" effect when the song is sped up, and the "lurch" effect when slowed down.
Vocal Reduction
Virtual DJ comes equipped with a one-touch vocal separator. It can be manipulated either to make the vocals of a song more prominent, drowning out the music, or eliminating them altogether to create an instrumental.
