Simple Camping Supply List

Keep your camping checklist simple for an enjoyable trip.

Keep your camping list simple by only bringing necessary items on your trip. The things that you take with you depend on the type of camping you're doing and when you'll be doing it. Make sure that you have all the important things because you might not be close enough to a store to buy something that you forgot to bring.

Equipment and Tools

The things that you need to include in your checklist for your shelter are the tent, screen house or sun shelter and, depending on your needs, stakes, an axe and a sledgehammer to set up your shelter. A pocket knife or a multi-function pocket knife will come in handy. You may want to bring some rope or twine for a clothesline, and a lantern and flashlight. Take equipment that you need for activities that you'll be doing, such as fishing gear and tackle. Bring folding chairs so you can sit comfortably. Always take a first-aid kit in case of emergency.

Bedding

The bedding that you take with you on your camping trip can vary from a simple sleeping bag to a camping mat or air mattress. Don't forget to bring a blanket so you can keep warm, especially during the evenings. If you'll be camping in cold weather, bring a sleeping bag liner for extra warmth. You'll also need to bring a pillow to sleep comfortably.

Cooking

One of the most important things you'll need is a large water jug. Bring a cooler, thermos, matches and a stove with fuel. Don't forget to bring cooking and eating utensils, and plates and bowls. Other things that you can bring are paper towels, garbage bags, cooking oil, pots and frying pans. Bring potholders, a can opener, a bottle opener and mugs or cups.

Clothing

The clothing that you'll be bringing will depend on the weather. Basically, you'll need pants or shorts, underwear, t-shirts, socks, shoes and maybe a pair of flip flops. You may want to wear a hat, a cap or a bandanna. Bring a towel and a sweater or jacket. For colder weather, a fleece or wool jacket will do a good job at keeping you warm. You might want to bring rain gear and swim wear. Don't forget to bring a laundry bag for your dirt clothes.

Toiletries

Some of the basic toiletries that you'll need on your camping trip are soap, shampoo, deodorant and toothpaste. Bring a towel, feminine hygiene products and toilet paper. You can bring a comb or a brush, a razor and a solar shower bag that you fill with water and heat under the sun for a warm shower. Most importantly, don't forget to bring any personal medications.
