Plastic Surgery RN salaries are higher than the national average for RNs
The profession of Registered Nurse is the largest in the health care field. There are some 2.6 million jobs as an RN nationally and, as typical in such a large job category, there are substantial variations in wages and salaries. These variations depend upon regional variations, specialties within nursing and the type of workplace the nurse is employed in.
RN Pay Nationally
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average pay for an RN across the country was $62,450 in 2008. This masked substantial variation, as the lowest 10 percent were on less than $43,500, the top 10 percent on over $92,000. Regional variations can account for some of this: the average wage for all RNs in California was $85,000 that year.
Variations in RN Salary by Workplace
Where a nurse works has a large influence on her salary. For those working in nursing care facilities, average salaries were $57,000, while those in employment services were paid $68,000 on average. Partly this marks the different types of nursing conducted in these different environments, but part of it is that different types of employer pay different amounts.
The Salary of a Plastic Surgery RN
According to Indeed, a database of current job offers, which can be consulted for the wages on offer to particular specialties, the average salary for a plastic surgery RN is $92,000. This is substantially higher than the average salary for all RNs and reflects the greater levels of training and experience needed by a plastic surgery RN.
The Future of RN wages
The BLS tells us that a substantial number of the RNs currently working are approaching their retirement. Demand for health care, and thus nurses, will rise as the population ages. These two factors are expected to increase the number of RN jobs available to new entrants and also to increase RN wages and salaries faster than those of other jobs.
