Kingwood, Texas, is a planned community about 30 miles north of Houston. As of 2005, its population was about 65,000. Kingwood also is referred to as the "Livable Forest" because there are more than 500 acres of parks and wildlife preserves within the community. Residents and visitors can participate in annual fairs and festivals.
Town Center Park
Kingwood's Town Center Park is home to the annual Mardi Gras Festival, which has live music, a parade and arts and crafts. The Spring Car Show features restored classic cars and live music. The Fourth of July Festival at the park includes family activities, music and fireworks. Another car show is held in the fall. In December, Christmas in the Park includes music and dance, arts and crafts, and a tree lighting ceremony. A farmers market is held in the park every Thursday from May through October.

Pumpkin Patch and Fall Festival
The Church of the Good Shepherd hosts an annual Pumpkin Patch and Fall Festival in October. The church receives thousands of pumpkins, with proceeds of the sale benefiting the church and local charities. Children can play games, have their faces painted and create crafts. The festival also includes live music, Halloween-inspired treats, a haunted house and a dunking booth.

Kings Harbor Waterfront Village
The Kings Harbor Waterfront Village is a residential and commercial area on the shores of Lake Houston. The village hosts concerts from April through September. The music includes jazz, blues and Latin. Elvis impersonators also have performed. The village sponsors the annual Wellness Fest, which includes a 5K and 10K walk/run, vendors, live music and educational presentations. The Wellness Fest is designed to promote healthful living and lifestyle choices.

Kingwood Art Society
The Kingwood Art Society meets one Monday a month from September through May. Meetings include demonstrations of oil painting, sculpture and other art techniques. Participants can tour local museums and bid at art auctions.
