A band leader actively pursues gigs for the band, either independently or with the assistance of a booking agent. When performances are scheduled, the leader determines the program order, and directs or conducts the group.
Education
While a formal musical education is not required to become a band leader, candidates who have studied and or received a degree in a music or a related field of study are typically given preference.
