What Are The Signs And Symptoms Of Thyroid Infertility

Hypothyroidism can be discovered during or after pregnancy, but many times due to hypothyroidism, women can't get pregnant at all because the condition stops ovulation. However, menstrual periods may remain normal, making it hard to determine if hypothyroidism is the underlying reason for infertility. Those women who do manage to get pregnant, while suffering from hypothyroidism, have an increased chance of spontaneous abortion; moreover, the infant is at risk of sudden infant death syndrome and having birth defects. Although there are not a lot of sign and symptoms that go along with the disease, there are a few to consider.

No Menstrual Cycle

Many women continue to have a normal menstrual cycle even with hypothyroidism; but if irregularities occur, it could be a sign of the disease and is best checked by a doctor.

Lactation

Many women with severe hypothyroidism start to lactate although not pregnant. This can occur for women who have never had children, and it is a telling sign of hypothyroidism.

Weight Gain

Unexplained weight gain is an early indicator of hypothyroidism; and if healthy diet and exercise do not correct the problem, a doctor should be consulted.

Depression

Many women with hypothyroidism tend to feel overwhelmed, depressed and out of energy all the time.

Diminished Sex Drive

A healthy sex drive is reduced when dealing with hypothyroidism and in fact can vanish altogether.

Cold Intolerance and Muscle Pain

Joint and muscle aches are common in women who suffer from hypothyroidism as is cold intolerance.

Ovarian Cysts

Hypothyroidism is also known to produce cysts on the ovaries creating even a further reason for infertility.
