Metamucil For Abdominal Pain

Metamucil is a supplement that contains psyllium husks, a dietary fiber. Metamucil is recommended for relieving constipation. It also may be helpful for those individuals who suffer from irritable bowel syndrome.

Types

Metamucil is available in capsules, wafers and powdered-drink mixes.

Dosage

To relieve constipation and its associated abdominal pain, take one dose of Metamucil with 8 ounces of water. Repeat up to three times a day until effective.

Time Frame

Metamucil should relieve constipation within 72 hours. If constipation and abdominal pain persists for more than seven days, consult a physician.

Function

According to the Metamucil website, the psyllium in in the product absorbs water and swells once it is ingested. That helps make stool softer and helps produce enough bulk to stimulate a bowel movement.

Warning

Stop taking Metamucil and consult a physician if your abdominal pain gets worse or if you experience vomiting, rectal bleeding or an itchy rash.
