What Do With A Cracked Laptop Computer Screen

When you accidentally drop your laptop, one of the most common problems that can result is a cracked LCD screen. If you find yourself with a cracked screen, you can still make use of it, even if not on the laptop.

Replace It

In most cases, you'll replace the damaged screen. In addition to replacing the screen itself, replacing other related components may be necessary depending on the extent of the damage to the computer. The cost of a new LCD screen can be, in some cases, more than cost of a new laptop. You can purchase a defunct laptop of the same model for cheap on an auction site, and cannibalize the parts.

Recycle It

If the laptop is an older model that's past its useful lifespan, or if the damage extends beyond just the screen, you may just be ready to throw away the laptop entirely. It's important that you don't just toss it in the garbage, though. Contact your local waste collection agency to learn about the proper methods and costs associated with recycling electronics. Most facilities only accept this type of garbage a few times a year.

Repurpose It

A laptop with a cracked LCD screen may seem like a burden, or a guaranteed way to burn through hundreds of dollars. But you can use the broken LCD screen as a piece of art. Some artists, like Brenda Guyton and Miguel Rivera, use broken electronics as components in sculptures or art installations. You can donate the broken screen to artists.
