Why Is Acacia Fiber Better For Dieting

Acacia fiber is good for a diet because like all fiber it works to keep you feeling satisfied. Also, some individuals have sensitive stomachs and find that psyllium fiber found in products like Metamucil can irritate their intestines, and that acacia is a good alternative. Acacia fiber is also especially good at maintaining healthy blood sugar levels, which is good for dieting. Acacia fiber has been used for centuries for food and medicinal uses. It is harvested from the sap of the Acacia senegal tree. It is very soluble in water and is a nutritious, good source of fiber.

Importance of Soluble Fiber

Acacia fiber is rich in soluble fiber which can help manage diseases such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and it can also lower cholesterol, reduce risk of heart disease and minimize colon cancer risks. Soluble fiber also slows the absorption of fats and carbohydrates into the bloodstream. The slowed absorption improves glycemic (blood sugar/insulin) control, regulates blood pressure and helps prevent the formation of free radicals which cause cancer and aging.

Less Bloating With Acacia

Acacia fiber stimulates the development of good gut flora (bacteria) and less than 15 grams per day will not cause the same gastro-intestinal symptoms that other soluble fiber supplements do. Some of the problems associated with other fiber supplements are gas, cramps and bloating. It is also important to take enough water with any fiber or this can lead to intestinal discomfort as well.

Weight Loss and Diabetes

Acacia fiber is good for weight loss and diabetes. Fiber helps delay the absorption of a meal and stabilize blood sugar levels. It also triggers a fullness hormone, CCK, that signals your body to stop eating because it is full. Research has also shown that fiber helps block the absorption of calories by eliminating food without it being broken down.

Forms of Acacia Fiber

Acacia fiber is available in powder or pill form and in foods such as breakfast bars. The pill can be taken with water and the powder can be dissolved in water or juice or can be incorporated into recipes. Acacia powder can be added to yogurt, cereal, soups, sandwiches, casseroles, baked goods and many other foods.
