A few tips and tricks can speed up your Internet connection.
If you have an unbearably slow Internet connection or your connection has a decent speed but you'd like it to be faster, changing several settings on your computer and reducing the number of things competing for your Internet's bandwidth can optimize your computer and Internet connection to deliver higher speeds.
Clear Cache
Internet caches are designed to store the most recent and most frequently requested information you have accessed on your Internet browser. Caching takes up space and speed on your computer and Internet by storing large volumes of data from sites you have accessed. You can clear your Internet cache and speed up your Internet by going to your the "Internet Options" in your web browser and deleting your browsing history, which includes your Internet cache.
Prevent Unauthorized Usage
If you use a wireless Internet connection, you may unknowingly be allowing others near you to share your Internet connection, which can slow down your connection. Secure your Internet connection and make it private by establishing a WEP password or WPA encryption to stop unauthorized usage.
Control Bandwidth Usage
Several applications and programs on your computer may be using your Internet connection--and your available bandwidth. Some of these programs may start and connect to the Internet as soon as your computer does, which means they are taking up space even when you are not using them. Configure the settings of your programs so that they don't automatically start when your computer does.
Basic Maintenance
If nothing else seems to deliver the Internet speed you are seeking, it may be that your computer is too slow. Like all computer programs, Internet browsers require a certain amount of memory and disk space to run efficiently. Your computer must be kept in good condition with regular maintenance procedures, such as disk cleanup and de-fragmentation. If your computer is older, consider upgrading your computer's RAM.
