The Ontario government provides health care to resident seniors.
Provincial and territorial governments in Canada are responsible for providing health care services and benefits to their residents. Seniors living in Ontario are entitled to the same free medical insurance coverage as other Canadians, including hospital and doctor visits, as well as some benefits specifically geared to seniors over age 65.
Prescription Drugs
The Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, through the Ontario Drug Benefit Program, covers most of the cost for prescription drugs for people over age 65. In most cases, prescription drugs that are eligible are listed in the Ontario Drug Formulary.
Eye Care
Ontario residents who are over 65 years old are entitled to one eye-care exam per year.
Dental Care
The Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care covers the cost of emergency dental surgery conducted in a hospital. There are several privately-funded programs in place to assist Ontario's most vulnerable residents including seniors and children, although there are no government benefits in place geared specifically towards seniors.
Physiotherapy
Ontario residents over 65 are entitled to a maximum of 100 physiotherapy visits per year.
